The ClearDNS Manifesto

The internet was supposed to be yours. Somewhere along the way, it became a place where you are the product - watched, profiled, and sold, often before a page even finishes loading.

We built ClearDNS because privacy should be the default, not a setting you have to fight for. Every account you create, every email you hand over, every "accept all" you click is one more thread in a profile being built about you. We decided to remove the thread entirely.

We don't want to know who you are

Most services ask for your identity and promise to protect it. We took the opposite path: we never collect it in the first place. Your identity on ClearDNS is a set of random IDs issued for your policy and devices, never your name.  No name. No email. No password. There is no account to breach or sell - because there is no account at all. 

We can't sell what we don't have

Surveillance capitalism runs on data exhaust: the quiet stream of everywhere you go and everything you do. ClearDNS is built so that stream never becomes a profile. DNS queries on Essential and Stream are answered in real time and kept out of any DNS history - not profiled, not monetized. The best way to keep data safe is to hold as little as possible.

Encryption is not optional

Your DNS requests reveal every site you visit. We encrypt them between your device and ClearDNS with DNS-over-HTTPS and DNS-over-TLS, so your ISP, your network, and anyone in between are left in the dark - exactly where they belong. 

You decide what gets through

Privacy without control is just a different cage. ClearDNS hands you the keys: block ads, trackers, malware, adult content, Big Tech telemetry, and more - across every device - and change your mind whenever you want. Your network, your rules.

Privacy is not a premium feature or a marketing word to us - it is the reason ClearDNS exists. As long as we run this service, we will keep collecting as little as possible, encrypting as much as possible, and answering to you and no one else.
